Department of Agronomy

Introduction

The University of Layyah, established in 2022, takes pride in its commitment to nurturing the agricultural potential of Layyah, a district renowned for its human capital and high literacy rate in Southern Punjab. Recognizing this potential, the Government of Punjab established a sub-campus of Bahauddin Zakariya University in Layyah in 2009. Through the vision and dedication of the Provincial Assembly, this sub-campus was elevated to the status of an independent university in 2022.

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) University Accreditation Committee, granted permission in 2023 for the undergraduate degree program in Agriculture with Agronomy as a major subject. This signifies that the program met the necessary standards and requirements set by the HEC, allowing students to pursue a recognized degree in Agriculture with a specialization in Agronomy. The majority of the faculty holds Ph.D. degrees. The department has amassed a significant number of research publications in internationally and nationally renowned journals recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). A considerable proportion of these publications are in journals with high impact factors.

The Department of Agronomy at the University of Layyah offers a comprehensive curriculum that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical applications in the field of crop science. Our programs delve deep into the fascinating world of agronomy, from exploring the intricacies of plant growth and development to the latest advancements in sustainable agricultural practices. Our aim is to equip graduates with the expertise and skills necessary to address the challenges and opportunities facing modern agriculture.
